SOUTH AFRICA Garden Route is the most popular travel destination in South Africa. The stretch on the south-eastern coast of South Africa is packed with beautiful beaches, special nature and game parks. It has a lot to offer any tourist.
Last week the Norwegian travel reporters were invited to South African Embassy in Oslo. For me it was a good opportunity to take a walk down memory lane and relive my two month long visit to the country in 2010. This trip was such an eye opener for me, seeing the contrasts in living standards among the citizens of the country, from the extremely rich people in the hills of Cape Town, to the townships surrounding the cities. It changes you.
At the meeting last week the embassy told us Garden Route was the most popular destination in the vast country, a country that is four times the size of Norway. I also loved traveling this stretch. From Cape Town you can drive to Stellenbosch and visit vineyards, before you can continue down the beautiful Garden Route that starts in Mossel Bay. We continued all the way to Jeffreys Bay. Read about the game parks here. Click on the pictures to enter the album from my Garden Route visit.
The vineyards around Stellenbosch are beautiful.
There are several guided tours you can do in the wine district of Stellenbosch.
There you get to se how the wine is made.
And taste a lot of different wines.
And then leave in a happy mood.
The main beach in Mossel Bay. The entrance city to Garden Route.
There are also other smaller beaches in the area.
With a lot of colorful houses.
Like these.
And these.
And there are a lot of game parks in the area where you can see african animals up close. See my post about this on “Animals of South Africa”.
There are a lot of nice beaches along the Garden Route.
And behind these cliffs is the worlds biggest bridge bungy jump. Bloukrans Bridge Bungy. Didn’t do that..
There are also a lot of townships along the way.
But it is oh so rewarding to visit one of them. This is from a visit to a local church in a township close to Jeffreys bay.
We traveled the Garden Route with the bus company Baz bus, it stops all along the coast.
Our favorite place along the coast was the surf town of Jeffreys Bay. Because it is so beautiful.
And we stayed at the most beautiful hostel. Island Vibe.
Where there was so much fun to do. Surf and beach all day. Music and games at night.
And the sunsets were perfect.
