ITALY: Sardinia has perfect white beaches, lots of activities for travelers, and luxury for the jet setters. But the real charm of the island you find in the narrow streets of the small towns.
The island has been a tourist attraction for decades, but it is not a typical charter destination. This is a place for travelers that want to rent a car and explore the island themselves.
And there is a lot to see!
In the north you find the posh areas of Costa Smeralda. Here you have perfect white beaches and can go spotting for the rich and famous that go there for leisure. The little town of Porto Cervo is packed with yachts and luxury shops. But the town itself is super nice, not flashy, and definitely worth visiting.
On the west side of the island you can visit medieval towns with narrow streets almost unchanged since they where built. Walking in there is like stepping back in time. And this is really where you find the real charm of the island, I think.
In the north of the island you find the area Costa Smeralda.
With perfect white beaches.
The main town here is Porto Cervo.
Packed with yachts and people living the “good life».
In nice surroundings…
relaxing…
The town itself is super cozy.
With its special architecture. Like this church.
But this is also a place for luxury shopping.
You can get exactly what you want there. Even Rolex watches in human sizes.
In the far north you also find the town of Santa Teresa Gallura, with a national park full of special rocks that is formed by the wind and water.
Like these.
And these.
A lot of them have cave holes on the sides.
And formations you can hang around in.
Or you can hang at some of the local cafes.
Natural caves are to be found several places around the island. Like in the small village of Cala Gonone, an area which attracts a lot of rock climbers.
There are also beautiful beaches close to the caves.
But I think the small towns are where you find the real charm of the island. Like here in Bosa on the west side of the island.
There is an old medieviel castle on top of the city, called Malaspina.
And the walk up to the castle is so nice amongst the charming and old houses.
In all different colors.
There is also a lot of nice street cafes.
And charming piazzas.
And charming people.
On every corner.
In the town of Alghero you can rent a boat for a day.
And just relax.
Or you can stay at the hotel pool.
Or visit some of the nice smaller beaches.
Or just again walk in the nice streets of the small towns.
